Vikings Swap Former 1st-Round Corner With Chiefs
Hughes, where do we begin? You had so much promise, and as a fan of the Vikings selfishly I had hoped it would work out. The talent was there at the end of the first round and I never faulted Zimmer and Spielman for making the move. It is true what they say however, the best ability is availability. Minus 2019 in which he played 13 games Hughes has suited up a grand total of 10 times for the team in purple since being drafted in 2018. The Vikings were cornerback needy last year and I believe his inability to stay healthy is what led us here.
Brett Veach has done a great job of finding value since taking over the team. Evidenced by his trading up to draft one Patrick Mahomes the year before Hughes was taken. One could view this move as another low risk possibly high reward move. The draft capital given up makes this move even more appealing. A six-rounder in exchange for good yet often unavailable talent is the type of moves smart teams make in this league. If the former first-rounder can stay healthy and regain his form this could pay big dividends for the Chiefs.
